Keywords

After the meeting, we decided to add two more keywords
1. sex: $0.30
2. aphrodisiac: $0.50

We also added another text add that reads as folowos:
"African Aphrodisiac
Traditional African mead.
Available in different flavours
www.iqhilika.co.za"

All keywords are active at previously mentioned prices.

Meeting with Iqhilika

We meet with Iqhilika last week and have made some progress.
1. He noted that there has been increased traffic for the company. This however couls also be as a result of another Google challenge group having selected Iqhilika as their company to advertise for.

2. As noted above, there is another group (IT Honours) who are participating in the competition. They have been advertising Iqhilika since the first of May. We have spoken to Ross and Jude has sent them an email to sort the problem out.

3. We can get a hold of statistics about hits on their website. We just need to email Janice Limson: j.limson@ru.ac.za editor@scienceinafrica.co.za

4. With reference to offline marketing, Iqhilika make use of a viral marketing strategy. They use the press to get their name out.

Changes made to our google online campaign -Nicole

Hi all

I've just noted the significant changes made:

12 May

By 12 May we had a total of 111 clicks. This confuses me though. What do these 111 clicks refer to? Is it just clicks on the keywords we chose? It can’t refer to the clicks on our ads as for example today we’ve only had one click on our ad.

Basically all our keywords were inactive. Below are the changes that were made :

  • Meade - increase from $ 0.20 to $0.30
  • South Africa – increase from $0.50 to & 1.00
  • Alcohol – increase from $0.18 to $0.50
  • Bee – increase from $0.40 to $0.50
  • Beer – increase from $0.50 to $1.00
  • Beverage – increase from $0.25 to $1.00
  • Drink – increase from $0.40 to $1.00
  • Fermented honey –increase from $0.18 to $0.40
  • Grahamstown – increase from $0.30 to $0.50
  • Honey – increase from $0.50 to $1.00
  • Honey sun – increase from $0.18 - $0.40
  • Iqhilika – increase from $0.18 to $0.20
  • Meadery – increase from $0.18 to $0.30
  • Rhini –increase from $0.18 to $0.40
  • Wine – increase from $0.30 - $0.40

13 May:

We had a total of 103 clicks – again is does not refer to clicks on our actual ads. I am worried about the success of our campaign as we haven’t spent our entire budget or even a significant portion of it.

Below are the changes that have been made :

  • Alcohol - $0.50 to $ 1.00
  • Bee –$0.50 to $1.00
  • They want to us pay $5.00 for beverage!!!!!! ( up from $1.00)
  • Meadery - $0.30 to $0.40
  • Wine - $0.40 to $0.50

Lindsey's Summary

Hi guys,

Here is a general summary of the 5 days that I monitored the google challenge :)

Google Online Marketing Challenge

Lindsey

Sunday 4 May to Thursday 8 May

When I first took over campaign monitoring, we had only had 7 clicks. There were a number of keywords that we had purposely originally left out because we thought that they would be too broad and too expensive.

When we saw (on Monday 5 May) that so little of our budget had been used we decided to up the stakes and spend more money to see if it would result in more clicks.

The keywords which we added were:

alcohol

honey

drink

beverage

south africa (had to be set at $0.25 to activate)

beer

wine

bee

Tuesday brought with it a couple of surprises. We had 31 clicks. Yay! Our highest click-attracting key word was the newly added 'south africa'. The odd thing was that it, along with another 8 keywords had now become inactive.

So we decided to play the game and upped the prices of those keywords that had become inactive (except for a few like beverage, alcohol and drink which had received even minimal views – presumably because they are such broad key words)

prices changed to:

south africa - $0.40

wine - $0.20

grahamstown - $0.30

honey - $0.40

bee - $0.30

And then on Wednesday the same thing happened... keywords were inactive. Hmmm.

So we selectively upped the CPC's again:

south africa - $0.50

wine - $0.30

bee - $0.40

honey - $0.50

beer - $0.50

drink - $0.40 (drink was included as the impressions had increased and we decided there was little to lose because we already were way under the max budget we had initially set)

On Thursday, at the time of checking, prices had not been increased as on previous days but i suspect that that may have been because it was earlier in the day (SA time) and clicks might have come from the US etc which would mean they were behind in time.
