Here is a general summary of the 5 days that I monitored the google challenge :)
Google Online Marketing Challenge
Lindsey
Sunday 4 May to Thursday 8 May
When I first took over campaign monitoring, we had only had 7 clicks. There were a number of keywords that we had purposely originally left out because we thought that they would be too broad and too expensive.
When we saw (on Monday 5 May) that so little of our budget had been used we decided to up the stakes and spend more money to see if it would result in more clicks.
The keywords which we added were:
alcohol
honey
drink
beverage
south africa (had to be set at $0.25 to activate)
beer
wine
bee
Tuesday brought with it a couple of surprises. We had 31 clicks. Yay! Our highest click-attracting key word was the newly added 'south africa'. The odd thing was that it, along with another 8 keywords had now become inactive.
So we decided to play the game and upped the prices of those keywords that had become inactive (except for a few like beverage, alcohol and drink which had received even minimal views – presumably because they are such broad key words)
prices changed to:
south africa - $0.40
wine - $0.20
grahamstown - $0.30
honey - $0.40
bee - $0.30
And then on Wednesday the same thing happened... keywords were inactive. Hmmm.
So we selectively upped the CPC's again:
south africa - $0.50
wine - $0.30
bee - $0.40
honey - $0.50
beer - $0.50
drink - $0.40 (drink was included as the impressions had increased and we decided there was little to lose because we already were way under the max budget we had initially set)
On Thursday, at the time of checking, prices had not been increased as on previous days but i suspect that that may have been because it was earlier in the day (SA time) and clicks might have come from the US etc which would mean they were behind in time.
